Propserity and morality.

An interesting book review from Reason. It tracks Jude Wanniski's argument that economic stress leads to increased social pathologies. Unfortunately no mention of inflation's role.

One thing to keep in mind is an attitudinal change in the West from applauding achievement to denigrating the "inequality" it produces. Everybody loses in that process. First, seeking higher individual targets doesn't mean you'll hit them, but it does mean you will do better. Second, people only get rich in a free society when others pay them for what they do.

Or to rephrase, people get rich when they produce a product consumers desire.

And before you get to deep into this analysis, just remember this guy's last big book. "Day of Reckoning: The Consequences of American Economic Policy Under Reagan and After".
